Having just returned from Holiday World, I thought I would drop you folks a note to say a HUGE thank you for an excellent two days of fun!
My family and I travel to at least 4-5 parks per year, so we get to see how different parks are operated. From past experience, we always expect more fromHW, and once again, you have exceeded those expectations.
Seeing several parks a year, we're able to notice a lot of little things that some may not. Anyone who does any research has read that Holiday World has a reputation for being an EXTREMELY clean park. A little thing that I noticed this time, was the almost complete absence of graffiti. Kids are going to be kids anywhere, and I'm sureHW sees its share of graffiti, but I only noticed one instance of it this past weekend. From my knowledge of the operating principles you have, I'm assuming that
you look for it, and take care of it in short order.
I always expect the staff at HW to be a cut above the rest. From past experience, I expect the staff at HW to be the best, and I'm never disappointed. Every year, I see one staffer who really stands out to me. This year it was Tori M. Let me explain why I feel the need to call her out specifically amongst what is the best park staff I've ever seen: Our daughter is 49 inches tall, and loves parks and coasters as much as any six-year-old out there. Being so close to the height restriction, she got checked
EVERY time, without one exception. Friday night, before her second ride on Raven, Tori measured her, then sent one of the ride attendants to get armbands for my daughter and another young girl she had just measured. Nobody asked for this, and she certainly didn't have to do it, but she took it upon herself to do this for us. I thanked her for it more than once, but you need to know how her attitude toward the
guests is appreciated.
It's also worth noting that during the entire two days, my daughter received scrutiny for her height every time she got on a ride with the 48" height requirement. NOT ONE ride attendant let her on without first seeing the wristband and/or checking for themselves.
Words can't say how much I appreciate the safety first attitude your staff has. It's clear that you stress this highly, and I appreciate it very much.
Other than HW, I've only encountered a park owner once during a visit. At Holiday World, I've never failed to see Mrs. Koch, and/or Will. Friday evening, I saw Mrs.
Koch- she was sweeping (of course), and I had to tell her that from talking to people outside of the coaster geek mainstream, every time Holiday World is mentioned, they almost always say, "That's the cleanest park I've ever seen!" Her response, as always, is, "It better be!"
Of course, I've been mentioning the actions of the higher level park employees, but I also need to mention what I saw from the red- and blue-shirted staffers. Everyone, to a person, was polite, friendly, and professional. Not once did I ride without having my restraints checked. I like to raise my arms and lean back before the ride op gets to me to make it easier for them to do their checks, and I was frequently thanked for it. As we were leaving Saturday, the attendant at Guest Relations (I wish I'd gotten his name) asked my daughter if she'd had fun. She was on the verge of tears (because she did NOT want to leave!) as she said yes. He was very kind to her as he told her she'd could come back anytime, and then asked her if she'd gotten a Holidog card, and got one for her when he found out she hadn't.
I'm guessing he'd had a long day of work, yet he was still very nice and hospitable to a cute little six-year-old. That sort of thing makes a difference.
We went to Splashin' Safari for the first time, and we had a ball, even if the weather caused the water to be a bit chilly. Two things that stand out to me are the quality of the sunscreen you provide- my wife has a very fair complexion (genuine
redhead -- keep out of direct sunlight) and did not get any burn. I'm going to be telling people, "They don't just give you free sunscreen, they give you free GOOD sunscreen."
The most important thing to mention about Splashin' Safari is the lifeguards, both in quantity and quality. It seemed that they were everywhere, and they all looked to be very attentive. When you have a six-year-old, that means a LOT.
And the rides? Ahh, Voyage (sigh). I'm a confirmed airtime junkie, and I have a 163' tall monkey on my back! Easily my favorite wooden coaster ever, likely my favorite coaster of any type, and I have ridden some gems. Legend is insane (in the good way) and Raven (my wife's favorite) is outstanding. The decision to go fromGerstlauer to the PTC trains was a very good choice.
I've gone on long enough. It's not often that I feel compelled to write to a park and express my feelings about a visit. It's even more rare for me to feel the need to write to a park where I expect a higher level of service. However, you just need to know that you are doing it right.
You have a great park, and you are outstanding hosts. It's clear to me that you put a lot of emphasis and effort into this, and you need to be told that it comes through loud and clear in the experience that you give your guests. You've always treated us so well that, when people mention going toHW, I always urge them to come visit you for a park experience like no other. Nicely done!
