Lights...camera...vote!

We like to give HoliBlog readers a peak behind the curtain.

Today you get a glimpse behind the water curtain.

Faithful readers already know how Lori and Jennifer like to theme each season with their lifeguards and slide attendants.

For 2007, it's all about the red carpet. (Hooray for HoliWood?)

One of the team's "challenges" so far this season was for each crew to choose a movie theme and pose for a silly photo. I guess this provided a bonding experience for all involved.

The next step is for Lori and Jennifer to select the winner.

But this year, you get to have a say.

Take a look at the eight photos that follow and, if you'd like to, send us a quick email (fun@holidayworld.com) by Monday (July 2) at 10 am CDT with your vote. Please use the photo number to help in the vote counting.

Ready? (Can anyone else hear Bugs Bunny? Overture...curtain...lights. This is it ... the night o' nights...)

Photo #1:

The theme is Black Hawk Down.

Photo #2:

They call themselves the Blue Diamonds.

Photo #3:

The Blue Guardians.

Onward to Photo #4:

Dude, Where's My Guards? (Not to worry, these photos weren't taken during operating hours.)

Photo #5:

Gold Member. (Gotta watch which cut-rate brand of sunless tanner you buy, dude.)

Photo #6:

At long last, a movie I've seen: Greased Lightning and the Pink Ladies.

Photo #7:

Ogre Achievers. (I guess lifeguards have layers...)

And, last but not least, Photo #8:

Wave Heart.

Remember, we need your vote by Monday. And no stuffing the ballot inbox, please.

Double vision

If you've been coming to the park for 10 or more years, you may remember this fellow.

Blaine sent us an email the other day, starting with: You might not remember me, but my name is Blaine...

Yes, Blaine, of course we remember you!

Blaine and his identical twin, Brandon, worked here in the mid-'90s.

What I remember most clearly is they liked to sing ... together. And once in a while, if they happened to run into each other during their workday, they'd burst into song.

Gosh, was that really a decade ago?

Blaine sent us a few photos he'd snapped the other day. This one is particularly lovely:

In case you're curious, Blaine worked here from 1994-'97. He was a sweeper then. Now he's an airline pilot.

Nice to know he's still cleaning up.

Whose ears are burning?

...the Mouse's or Holidog's?

How bizarre to read a thread about us on a Disney discussion website!

We're # ... 21!

What Yahoo came up with this list?

So who takes care of the bill?

Ah, a guest post from Eric, our Admissions Director and the proud Innkeeper of our own Holidog Inn:

Where’s the Holi-Duck Inn?

The Admissions staff is used to catering to our Guests’ furry friends. Pets of all kinds enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of the Holidog Inn while their owners play at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. While dogs and cats are typical residents, we can now add ducks to official guest book! This past Sunday, a paddling of five ducklings shared a crate in the Holidog Inn.

Talk about a big box of quackers! It’s a good thing we charge by the kennel and not the number of animals in the kennel – otherwise that would have been a big bill!

"I screamed like a 12-year-old girl at a Justin Timberlake concert"

What a great quote.

Another View of the park

No, we won't have Rosie and Elizabeth here...

But our new view is provided by ABC (their Evansville affiliate, actually).

It's called SplashCam.

You like us!

...you really like us!

When billboards go wild

Apparently this billboard took it upon itself to barge into a photo on the front page of yesterday's Nashville Tennessean website.

Talk about extreme marketing.

I'm hoping one of our HoliBlog readers in Nashville will let us know if this photo also made the print edition.

"Pleasantly unhip"

That just about says it, doesn't it?

NUVO news-weekly, which bills itself at "Indy's Alternative Voice," had lots of other good things to say about us.

One bit of outdated info though ... they say only Splashin' Safari has free sunscreen.

We added it at Holiday World this season.

As our friend Andy from the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain demonstrates, we now have a Sunscreen Station next to Indian River (across from The Alamo) in our 4th of July section.

Don't forget the back of your neck, dear.

Sunset at The Voyage

Thanks to Matt for sending his creation.

Monday, at the Front Gate

A cute little boy, maybe four years old...

...all excited, full of smiles.

Pointed out the lifthill of the big wooden roller coaster to his dad, shouting, "I'm gonna ride that! I'm gonna ride The Raisin!"

Translation vacation

We get lots of email requests for brochures and park maps.

Some even from overseas.

One today was from a lovely (I've no doubt) French lady.

...planning to visit your undertainment park this year...

Do you have an opinion?

...head over here to give it.

Perhaps they left their red coats on the motorcoach

It's all smiles around here when the call goes out: The British are coming!

There's something about the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain. They're good sports, that's for sure.

Although I had to explain the significance of having them pose by this sign:

They did happen to mention that "petrol" across the pond is a bit steeper than our gas prices here in the Colonies. They don't quite understanding our whining, when they pay something like $12 a gallon. Gulp. No wonder they "holiday" in the States each summer.
