Shaken, but some weren't stirred
I've been wanting to post for the past hour, but keep getting derailed by all the emails asking about The Earthquake.
Thanks for caring. The coasters are fine. (Oh, and we are, too.)
It was 4:36 this morning. The rattling began.
Later, I thought of the ratty motels featured in movies and sitcoms -- those with the "Magic Fingers" on the beds? For 50 cents? Well, let's just say the magic was in overdrive.
Gary, my husband, woke up for about a minute. I told him I thought we were in the middle of an earthquake.
Ohhh... yeah...
He rolled over and went back to sleep.
When I teased him a few hours later about how safe I felt that my big strong man was on top of the emergency, he was ready with an answer:
Well, if we were going to have a crisis, I should be well-rested, right?
Our 16-year-old son John says the earthquake didn't awaken him.
But the call at 4:37 am from his buddy Philip did.
"Dude, we just had an earthquake!"
Huhhhh? Whaaaa?
Apparently John takes after his dad in all the important ways.
I just talked to Will. He's deeply disappointed in his foo-foo doggy.
"Aren't dogs supposed to know ahead of time and warn the family? We have to have a serious talk this evening..."
Apparently Will watched too many Lassie reruns growing up.
Also heard from Korey of The Gravity Group (they're in Cincinnati). He says two of them awakened and three didn't.
I want names.
Meanwhile, we do have a set emergency procedure for earthquakes. Our crews are carefully inspecting the rides and buildings. So far, so good.
As I prepare to push the "publish post" button, I feel the rumble of an aftershock. And thank God that all are safe.

It is good to hear that you (and, yes, the coasters) are okay. I can't say it was a fun experience, but I'm fine and my family is fine. No injuries or damage. ^_^

Good to know there was no damage or injuries. We felt the 11:17 EST after shock here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Looking forward to coming to HW & SS in June. But please, no more earthquakes!!

Felt it here! Of course, I was only 20 miles away from the center of it. Also been feeling some aftershocks. Glad the coasters are ok!

St. Louis here. Strange way to start the day, with the bed/house shaking, and a distinct rumble sound that may or may not have been in my half-asleep mind. It's amazing how far these things travel, and I was concerned about our beloved HW once I saw where the quake was centered. So glad that everyone and everything are okay!

Living in So-Cal I know first hand what a shock it is to be jolted from sleep by a quake. I was happy to read the Holiblog entry that everyone was OK after this morning's shudder.

Larry and Chad were awake. Mike, Anthony and I were sleeping – but let’s not fault me for sleeping through it. I’ve been working hard and need my sleep.
We're happy that everyone is okay.

I still can't decide if it is a good thing that my number 4 worry after the quake (after family, house and work) was if the coasters at Holiday World were okay. Glad to hear they are. See you opening day!

It's pretty crazy when your very first thoughts are...."OH NO! I hope the woodies at Holiday World are OK!!!!". I guess I'm getting super excited about opening day in a couple of weeks. :)

As a coaster enthusiast, it's not uncommon to go to the HoliBlog to for the latest "news"; but, on days like today - the definition of news takes on special significance. It is so wonderful to hear that everyone at Holiday World is safe after this morning's shaky start. I know this is when the Holiday World family is at their busiest as the prepare for another season and they don't need the extra stress of worrying about unexpected tremors.
Although, I love thrill rides... I'll leave the whole 'lotta shaking going on to when I'm riding.

I remember when a quake happened in 2002, I visited the park the next day, and all was 100%
I know you are all on top of the situation.

During "coaster riding season", one stands in the stations of Voyage, Legend and Raven, the trains rumble by on their way out and back, and the vibrations are felt by those awaiting their turn to ride.
It must have been extremely confusing to those NOT standing in a coaster station house to feel the earth move under their feet!
This New Englander is very happy to know that the Holiday World families are safe and the coasters are undamaged!

Ok HW, You guys pulled a fast one on us enthusiasts this time. You deceive us by telling us that the new attraction for 2008 is Kima Bay, while secretly installing your new dark ride called " EARTHQUAKE" As with keeping up HW tradtion of providing the best trills in the business, the special effects on the "EARTHQUAKE" must be the most realistic effects for a dark ride ever. Not since Orson Wells The War of The Worlds have I seen a better PR stunt. To do the ride testing for "EARTHQUAKE" at 5:37am Friday morning and give a early morning wake up call to everyone in the midwest is one of the best PR stunts I've seen in a long time.
Glad to hear that my good friends at HW are safe as are the coasters.
Look forward to making the 6 hour drive from Toledo to visit and ride the best woodies on earth and the best new dark ride "EARTHQUAKE".
