Voyage trains update

For four years, we have worked in partnership with Gravitykraft Corp. to test a new style of roller coaster train for The Voyage, our award-winning wooden roller coaster. We very much appreciate Gravitykraft’s efforts in this process, however ultimately we have decided to continue running the existing trains on our three wooden coasters.

Dan and Chad take a walk by The Voyage

We love our Voyage. It's been voted the #1 Wooden Coaster on the Planet since it was one year old. This year is Voyage's seventh season. (Gosh, and it seems like only yesterday we were potty training … oh, wait, I seem to be confusing work and home. Once again. Never mind.) All of our…

Final exams

Am I the only adult who breathes a sigh of relief every May that I don’t have to take final exams? I didn’t think so. But testing, of course, is important. …especially when it’s a brand new design for a brand new coaster train. Here’s a gander at one of the new Timberliner train for…

‘Twas two nights before opening…

…and all through the park… Not a staffer’d gone home… …even though it was dark. Will Koch in his jacket … and Pat in her hoodie … Knew a treat would arrive soon for the world’s favorite woodie… When what through the darkened skies, in the rain … there’s a bright shiny new Timberliner Train!…

Who’s on first?

Typical conversation between Will and me: Me: Thanks for emailing me the photos, Will. The one of the logo — exactly where is it on the seat? Will: It's on the seatback. Me: The back of the back of the seat? Or the front of the back of the seat? …after pausing to laugh and…

Ready fenders

Been bugging the engineers at The Gravity Group for more photos of our new Timberliner trains. Testing of the new trains for our Voyage roller coaster begins in just a few weeks, and the parts are in painting-and-assembly mode. Korey was kind enough to send a few. In Korey’s words: I took a field trip…

Special delivery

It’s nice to have The Gravity Group offices just three hours away, in Cincinnati. So when Tony, our maintenance director, asked for sample bogies and a chassis to be delivered early, Chad hopped in the van Friday and headed our way. Searching for a "hanging Chads" joke … sadly, none comes to mind. But that’s…

Color me blue

Just got a copy of a graphic of the new Voyage trains. As you may recall, we’re getting a set of Timberliner trains, designed by the same engineers who came up with Voyage in the first place.  Just a few minor changes from the original graphic. Can you find them?

Thump, thump, clap! Thump, thump, clap!

We've talked about the coaster crazies before. They're those park enthusiasts who love all-things-coasters to the point that they join a club. …to the point that they go to meetings (and we're not talking about the 12-step type). …to the point that they'll even wear silly clothes. Enter Marty Moltz. He's one of our favorites….

Video: Will takes a seat…

Considering that The Gravity Group is based in Cincinnati, and we're here in Santa Claus, one would think Will wouldn't have to go all the way to Las Vegas to try out the feel of a Timberliner car. But since the IAAPA Expo was in Vegas this year, it does sort of makes sense. The…

The family that rides together…

Will is a happy guy. He’s in Las Vegas at the IAAPA Expo, where a sample Timberliner car just happens to be on display. Looks pretty comfortable, doesn’t he? Front row, from left: Lori Koch (Will’s better half), Will, brother Dan and mom, Pat. The back row, from left: Chad Miller and Larry Bill from…
