What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

It's fun reading through the comments with all of your favorite Christmas movies. I think I need to add a few more titles to my must-watch list for this year!"

I asked some of our full-time staff for their favorites:

  • It's a Wonderful Life – Jason, Food & Beverage director
  • White Christmas – Lori, VP; Alison, VP; and Sylvia, Admissions manager (she noted "the old one with the old guys")
  • Elf – Josh, HR director; Lori, Splashin' Safari Attractions director; Karen, Safety manager; and Erin, Games director
  • A Christmas Story – Eric, VP
  • Borrowed Hearts  – Cathy, Cleaning director
  • A Christmas Carol – Keith, Security director (the version with George C. Scott as Mr. Scrooge)
  • The Grinch Who Stole Christmas – Andrew, Warehouse manager
  • Rise of the Guardians – Alex, Holiday World Attractions manager
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas – Nathan, Digital Media developer
  • The Polar Express – Lori, Holiday World Attractions manager and Jennifer, Splashin' Safari Attractions manager
  • Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – Matt, park president
  • Home Alone – Heather, HR manager and Lauren, Communications coordinator
  • Miracle on 34th Street – Mike, VP
  • Christmas Child – Brandon, Guest Services director
  • Christmas Vacation – Steven, IT technician and Brett, Accounting & Finance director
  • Arthur Christmas – Jennifer, Marketing director

For me (have we met? I'm Paula, Communications director), it wouldn't be Christmas without Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. Razzleberry Dressing and all.

God bless us. Everyone.

A gingerbread kind of day

Today is Gingerbread House Day – did you celebrate?

We're hoping this family's home didn't smell so gingery good that they nibbled it down to the floorboards!

All of us here at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari send you our warmest wishes as we all celebrate during this special time of the year.

An annual discovery

This happens in the news media every year – the discovery that Indiana has a town with the rather unusual (and charming) name of Santa Claus.

With social media nowadays, it's fun to watch the public's reaction. For example, on Twitter:

Where did Rudolph’s rides go?

Have you ever walked through a closed-for-the season park?

It’s a bit … er, skeletal.

This week’s Transformation Tuesday photo gives you a look at some of the rides in Rudolph’s Reindeer Ranch back during the summer and presently, with a bit of snow and not much else.

Stay warm!

WWE = What a Wonderful Elf

Are you a professional wrestling fan?

It doesn't really matter when it comes to Mick Foley (aka Mankind), because this time of the year WWE means What a Wonderful Elf!

Mick, you see, loves roller coasters. And Christmas. So the thought of visiting Santa Claus, Indiana, to ride roller coasters was a treat he couldn't pass up.

His first visit to us was in 2002; he brought along two young friends from Wish Upon A Star.

That was more than a decade ago. Just look at whom Mick met up with over the weekend:

Mick, who has gained his own HoliBlog tag over the years, promises to visit us again soon – when the weather is warm and the coasters are flying.

Meanwhile, a Merry Merry Mickmas to all!

Sweepstakes: Win Summer Fun Cards

Congratulations to Michael N-B. of Evansville, Indiana, whose name was randomly drawn as our winner. Enjoy your Summer Fun Cards, Michael. Thanks to all who entered!

—————————–

As I write this, the temperature just dipped below freezing and Mother Nature is trying to decide whether it's a good time to get us in the mood to sing "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."

Brrr!

Let's warm up with the thought of summer fun – and that it's only, um, five short months away.

Did you know we added a new multi-visit option for 2014? It's called the Summer Fun Card. It's for folks who want to visit us a lot over the summer, and don't mind not visiting on Saturdays.
