Podcast: Wooden you like to know?

For podcast episode 025, we invited the park’s director of maintenance, John Woodard to join us and answer your questions about our wooden roller coasters.

Here’s John:

A few notes:

Here’s the link to the photo of Baked Alaska from our Santa Claus Land days.

The breakdancing we talked about during 33 Degrees? Prepare to be WOWed:

And, once again, The Coaster Crew amazes us:

Who’s having a Blue Monday?

I’d not heard of the term “Blue Monday” until recently.

Apparently, the use of “blue” isn’t a positive one. It’s all about winter having no end in sight, holiday bills, and impossible-to-keep resolutions. Yes, today is calculated to be the most “blue” of any day throughout the year.

Yuck!

And so …

Not sure if there’s a Red Wednesday coming up in the list of obscure holidays, but in a few weeks the next batch of Firecracker cars will be painted sparkly red. We’ll be sure to celebrate that day with you, too.

Cabin Fever sweepstakes

Congratulations to our winner, Larissa J. from Sellersburg, Indiana, whose name was chosen at random. Thanks to all who entered!

Anyone else freak out on a daily basis that the sun goes down before it’s even five o’clock? I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it!

Happily, we left the shortest day of the year behind us a few weeks ago and can cling to the knowledge that each days is a few minutes longer than the day before.

But still. Whether or not there’s snow on the ground, it’s safe to say we all need some relief from Cabin Fever.

And so, here’s our Cabin Fever Sweepstakes. The winner receives four one-day tickets to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari plus two nights in a Rudolph’s Christmas Cabin next door at Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort.

And fear not – we open for the season in just 105 days!

Remembering Alamo

This tweet created a bit of a stir, so let’s answer those questions:

First of all, yes, we will have an Alamo restaurant again this season. Same building, same location.

We’re re-working the restaurant’s physical design to create a more efficient service area.

And we’re also cooking up some new menu items (can’t tell you exactly what just yet, though), so be sure to remember the Alamo when you visit this summer.

By the way, if you’ve been meaning to snag some Season Passes, our deepest discounts are only available through this Sunday, January 15. Here’s where to find Season Pass perks plus information about our Easy Pay monthly payment option.

Google our growth

How much have we grown since we changed our name to Holiday World in 1984?

Google it:

Google Earth Engine compiled this Timelapse by lacing together an annual cloud-free mosaic of our little piece of the world.

Making Firecracker “pop”

So what is your New Year’s Resolution?

Mine is to crank out more puns in 2017.

Hence this blog post’s title.

But really, isn’t this pretty?

The sparkly top coat is thanks to a product called Big Flake. We can’t wait to see Firecracker in action on a sunny day.

And, fear not, after painting eight of the cars blue, Joe will paint the other eight red. (Oh, I can just hear the college sports fans already … )

Matt, Lauren, Leah and William stopped by “the booth” in our Paint Shop to send out a January update:

In case their closing line sounds familiar, let me just say it was originally meant to be simply “see you soon.” That group of Disneyphiles, though, couldn’t help but channel their inner Mouseketeers by adding the word “real.”

I’ll use mouse type for this final comment, as it will probably annoy more people than it will please, but technically, it should be see you really soon. There. I can click the “publish” button in good grammatical conscience now.

Podcast: Prodigal oboe

Happy New Year!

Our first podcast-episode name in 2017 is a nod to Leah, our oboe-playing member who still has a few days home before returning to Indiana University to continue her MBA studies.

We hope you enjoy this episode:

Did you want to see that video of Lauren opening her coffee-table book from The Coaster Crew? Here ’tis:

The in-the-booth video we talked about should be on YouTube (and here on the HoliBlog) in a few days. From left, that’s William, Leah, Matt and Lauren. Afterwards, Matt hung back for a little Facebook Live action – introducing our followers to the true meaning of the “Big Flake”:
Looks like Lauren’s dog, Edgar, isn’t looking forward to celebrating National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14! (That’s his nose poking through the armhole as he worked to remove his garment.)

Christmas wishes from The Coaster Crew:

And a celebratory gathering for Bacon Day on December 30:

But really, bacon toothpaste?!

And finally, they helped us ring in the New Year:

Here’s a look at that darling photo of young Kevin Weihe:

And finally, here’s your reminder that our best discounts for Season Passes run through January 15.
